‘QUILL’S’ First Words (creative writing group in Great
After months of planning it all fell into place
Ordered & formulated with not a smidgeon of blue tac misplaced
With advertisements and fliers psychedelically arranged
A whole encyclopedia’s worth of ideas exchanged
All our individuality came together as a single entity
To look around cinematically at our combined talents
Was awe inspiring & visually stunning, an achievement to be proud of
They say the best things in life are free
All of us at Quill thank the Sea Change Trust for letting us use their gallery
Not forgetting Tesco of course, for their benevolence and contributions
The three bottles of wine and eighteen bags of crisps filled our table nicely
Jack & Brian both lent their hands, Kate upheld her procedural overview
Jackie arranged the anthologies, with some aid from David and Sue
Fiona acted out some brilliantly encapsulating ‘pantomime poetry’
The six weeks planning we had really got our creative juices flowing
The scope of subject’s wall bound keeps on growing and growing
Messages from strangers who came to know us, just a bit
Warming comments, in the local newspaper with a page 25 headline hit
Good vibes reverberated in our humble, sanguine array of fine poetry & art
As far as debut’s go we can say we were well received & all, in our own special, individual ways, looked eye-catching, professional and smart.
Liz & Earnest added hand painted art. A tremendous, colourful, flying start
The private viewing, from my point of view was fine
Sat there on the arm of the settee wearing a big grin most of the time
So thank you all Quill members
For sharing what is yours with what is mine
And a toast to all our members not here now
I hope they are all doing fine
